Vote ONLY Houser (In His Race)

Remember, vote ONLY for Houser in his race.
We know many of you strongly support Chris Houser in this election.  In order for him to win, we need voters to vote ONLY for Chris in his race (while also voting for Amy and Jeff in theirs).  If this doesn't happen, Chris may not win despite having a majority of voters supporting him.  Consider these facts...
  1. Chris is running against both Mark Benfer and Dan Braucht for two open seats.
  2. Benfer and Braucht appear together on campaign signs and literature so they can be expected to have common supporters.
  3. Each PV voter has up to two votes but does not have to use both of them.
With that in mind, take a look at this brief example.  Suppose 1,200 Penns Valley voters support Chris while 1,000 people support Benfer and Braucht.
  • If Chris's supporters vote ONLY for him, then he receives 1,200 votes while Braucht and Benfer each receive 1,000.
  • If Chris's supporters all use their second vote, then Chris would receive only 1,200 votes while Benfer and Braucht would each receive 1,600 votes (assuming the additional votes were split evenly between those two candidates).
In the first case, Chris is elected.  In the second case he isn't despite having a stronger base of support.  Remember, you don't have to use both votes and, in this case, you shouldn't.  If you strongly support Chris, vote ONLY for him!

  1. I'm so sick and tired of the relentless MISINFORMATION ... I hope voters vote for whom they want to instead of whom they are TOLD to vote for or in this case NOT to vote for, I called the Board of Elections today after not getting just one solicitation but TWO, one in Valley Vine and one direct mailed to us ... she verified the fact that if there are two selected they EACH GET CREDIT ... not like you are saying in your literature that Chris' vote would mathematically be cancelled out if they vote for Chris and one other ... come on quite trying to tamper with the voter pool and let them vote whom they want in ... obviously Chris must not have a solid base or he wouldn't have to put out this MISINFORMATION!!!! Come on let's be FAIR about this and if Chris is not voted in then so be it!!!!!! It's just disgusting that you would STOOP to tactics like this that could and might make some voters think that they CAN'T have their TWO votes for this position ... which every registered voter is ENTITLED to ... and not have to be brow beaten into voting for Chris ONLY!!!!

  2. One of the basic issues in the current school board election is that the incubents and the Taxpayers' candidates treat the board as a private club not needing community participation in forming policy and allocation of funds. In 2013 the community committee created by the board met twice, once to organize and then to dissolve because the president of the board, Jay Martin, did not have time for committee. So reads the board's website. The board does not realize that they legally represent the public, not themselves or the administration. This distortion of public service must end. Candidates who understand their responsibility to the community must be elected.

  3. The year in question is 2012 and not 2013. The Taxpayer's candidates are not the CEO's of corporations as the promotion placed in the Grape Vine and distributed to all postal patrons seems to claim. They are all employed by others with limited responsibilities in their organizations. This is misinformation of the gravest seriousness.

  4. Thanks for the comments. Our promotional materials for Houser, Hyde, and Niewinski were intended to state our case explicitly. We understand, and have indicated in this post, that all voters in Penns Valley will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates in the 4-year, at-large race. Our goal is to inform Houser’s many supporters of the potential unintended consequences of using their second vote.

The board has represented the public well, keeping our taxes low while leading the District toward outstanding educational success. We based our endorsement in part on the candidates’ experience related to budget management/oversight and leadership within a large, complex organization. For Ms. Niewinski and Mr. Houser, that organization is the District. Mr. Hyde has direct supervision of a large staff at Penn State University and the budget that supports them. Only these candidates, and Mr. Yeagley, have this type of experience.

    1. still you misrepresented the fact, that if two votes are cast, one for houser and some one else then houser's gets cancelled ... that's NOT TRUE

    2. You are correct that the vote is counted and both would get credit, as you indicated in your initial comment. We don't believe that our materials indicate that this isn't the case. We used the word "mathematically" to indicate that, even though both candidates get credited for a vote, they cancel each other out as we count the votes at the end of the night. Thank you for helping us to be sure this is clear for all readers,
