Chris Houser

Chris and his family.
All four children have attended PV schools.

The Record:
When I was first elected to the school board the High School was not meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (passing the PSSA’s), the school district just passed a 22% tax increase, giving Penns Valley had one of the highest millage rate in the county.

Now the Penn Valley has the best test scores and one of the lowest millage rates in the county.

Penns Valley is the only school in the past three years to make Adequate Yearly Progress in all district
buildings and subgroups in Centre or any of its surrounding counties.  The school district now ranks in the top 8% in the state and our High School ranks in the top 3% according to Schooldigger.com.

I have always been a fiscally prudent person and shortly after I was elected I was appointed to the chair of the finance committee.  During my tenure on the finance committee, we cut school debt from above $30 million to $24 million.  Just last year the district made a $2 million dollar principle payment on a bond with cash!

When fuel costs started to escalate, I spearheaded a biomass project in the district that is now saving us over $200,000 a year.  The payoff for the biomass project is now scheduled to be in less than five years. Learn more about the biomass project in the Penns Valley School District's 2012-13 Annual Report.

My Background and Education:
I graduated from Penns Valley before earning my BS from Lock Haven and my MS from Penn State.  I was raised on a dairy farm in Woodward.  I’m currently an Agriculture Researcher at Penn State University.   I  live in Woodward with my wife and four school aged children (Kyle, Megan, Alicia, and Jonathan) that all attend Penns Valley.  I have volunteered for many organizations including the Penns Valley Area Historical Museum (where I served as president for many years), Little League, and the Millheim Lion’s Club.

I’m most proud of our students, staff, parents, school board and community for achieving such an accomplished record over a relatively short amount of time.

  1. I'm so sick and tired of the relentless MISINFORMATION ... I hope voters vote for whom they want to instead of whom they are TOLD to vote for or in this case NOT to vote for, I called the Board of Elections today after not getting just one solicitation but TWO, one in Valley Vine and one direct mailed to us ... she verified the fact that if there are two selected they EACH GET CREDIT ... not like you are saying in your literature that Chris' vote would mathematically be cancelled out if they vote for Chris and one other ... come on quite trying to tamper with the voter pool and let them vote whom they want in ... obviously Chris must not have a solid base or he wouldn't have to put out this MISINFORMATION!!!! Come on let's be FAIR about this and if Chris is not voted in then so be it!!!!!! It's just disgusting that you would STOOP to tactics like this that could and might make some voters think that they CAN'T have their TWO votes for this position ... which every registered voter is ENTITLED to ... and not have to be brow beaten into voting for Chris ONLY!!!!
